A new way to experience Electric Guitar

We know this sounds a bit like mad science, but we have created profiles for Neural Amp Modeler that can, when used correctly, make your electric guitar with standard magnetic neck pickup (humbucker or Single coil) sound like an acoustic guitar, mic'd up in the studio.

In order to create these profiles some advanced manipulation of the electric guitar sound is performed to make it resemble the tonal, resonance and envelope characteristics of an acoustic instrument. This proprietary process goes way beyond anything previously achieved and we are very excited to share it with you.

Quantum Acoustic - Tone Match IRs

So what are Tone Match IRs, and why do we need them?

Electric guitar pickups all sound different, so it is not possible to have a single generic profile that will sound the same using every electric guitar. The solution to this was to create  “Tone Match IRs”. These load into the IR slot on the NAM plugin, or any other IR loader, and bring your guitar’s neck pickup closer to our reference model which was used to create all the profiles. This solves the issue and makes it possible for almost any guitar to work with Quantum Acoustic Profiles.

A tone match IR is an impulse response created from a simple EQ curve, it is not a complex FFT type IR like say, a speaker cabinet IR. This just brings your pickup closer to the sound of the original used to create the profiles, so you can fine tune it with the EQ controls on the NAM plugin.

Because of this simple curve used, you do not need to have a tone match file for your exact guitar, indeed if you are using a humbucker neck pickup you may not need one at all, so be sure to try that too! it is NOT critical for you to match your pickup to the reference exactly, more to get close enough that you can then tweak it to your liking. the main consideration is that all our Quantum Acoustic profiles are created using a humbucker, so for single coil guitars you definitely want to try some of the tone match IRs..

Your Electric guitar controls still work! While we do recommend the use of a neck pickup with our Quantum Acoustic profiles, you can still use your tone and volume controls. The unique character of your guitar will also come through in the final sound, there is no `perfect` match or setting for each profile, they are created to bring the characteristics of the acoustic guitar to your electric, but they are also carefully crafted to maintain musicality and allow the unique sound of your electric to be a part of the final result.. A whole new experience! All our Quantum Acoustic packs come with 2 distinct flavors of the same acoustic as separate profiles for variety when creating recordings.
