Neutron Core NDX Drive Pedal
Ibanez MSL “Metal Screamer” — 28 Profiles
This pack contains 28 profiles of the Ibanez MSL “Metal Screamer”, the rarest Tube Screamer of all. Produced for only a few months in 1985 as part of Ibanez’s short-lived Master Series, the MSL is the missing link between the early TS-808/TS-9 and the later TS-10.
It shares the coveted JRC4558D op-amp and mid-focused drive DNA, but with a noticeably fuller low-end than any other Screamer variant — making it useful far beyond its misleading “Metal” name. With so few units ever built, the MSL remains virtually unknown and highly collectible.
Neutron Inductor Technology
With its unusually low input impedance (≈470 Ω), the MSL reacts subtly to real pickup loading, adding compression and a unique “bounce” to the feel. To capture this behaviour faithfully, every profile in this pack was created using the Neutron Inductor™.
The result is a rare Tube Screamer tone preserved in its purest form — alive, reactive, and finally available to players everywhere.
Drive Behaviour and Input Sensitivity
The Metal Screamer features a non-linear tone control, where treble drops quickly from 10–8, then flattens out. To reflect this, profiles include tone positions at 0, 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, and 10.
Drive settings were captured at:
D0 – Minimum drive
D5 – Medium drive
D10 – Maximum drive
Using NAM’s Input control, you can sweep naturally between these snapshots to recreate the entire usable gain range with only three captures per tone setting — preserving the pedal’s dynamics, clipping, and player response without the need for hundreds of redundant profiles.
Included Profiles
Each profile is named using the format:
NC-DRV-IMSL-NDX-T**-D**
T** = Tone setting (0, 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10)
D** = Drive setting (0, 5, 10)
Example:
NC-DRV-IMSL-NDX-T06-D10 = Tone at 6, Drive at maximum.
Built for the Neutron Core Modular System
These profiles are designed for seamless integration into the Neutron Core ecosystem:
| Component | Description |
|---|---|
| Pedal Profiles | Use as a front-end boost, drive, or gain shaper before the amp stage |
| Preamp Profiles | Found in Core amp packs. Combine with PowerPacks & Quantum Speaker captures |
| Power Amp Profiles | (Available separately) Simulate output stage saturation |
| Quantum Speakers | QuickStart blends or discrete mic profiles for complete cab realism |
Realistic Signal Chains – Studio or Stage
Series Example: Metal Screamer → Twin Reverb Preamp → 6L6 Power Amp → Jensen Cab
Parallel Example: Multiple discrete mic captures blended for mix-ready tone
Input/Output Calibration
All profiles include input and return calibration data. For best results in NAM:
Enable “Calibrated” mode and set +6 dBu = 0 dBFS
Humbuckers: Peak around –6 dBFS
Single Coils: Peak around –12 dBFS
Avoid clipping at all times — it can cause unnatural behaviour.
