The Ross Compressor is a widely revered two-knob compressor known for its smooth, musical character and natural sustain. It helped define the soft squash feel of vintage Nashville and LA studio tones in the 1970s and remains a favourite for clean playing, slide guitar and subtle front-end smoothing. Its circuit was the basis for many later designs — including the original MXR Dyna Comp — but the Ross is often described as slightly warmer and more transparent, with a more forgiving compression curve and quieter operation.
